Communications Specialist

Summary of the Position 

Now celebrating 10 years of work and preparing for the next decade, we seek a Communications Specialist to manage our day-to-day communication and marketing activities. We are looking for a passionate, creative advocate, with strong communication, marketing, and relationship management skills. This position will report to the Executive Director and collaborate closely with the Development and Program Directors. Ideally, the Communications Specialist will be based in the Burlington, Vermont area, but we will consider candidates who are qualified to work remotely. We offer flexible work hours, ability to work from home, and a four-day work week if preferred. Annual salary: $45,000.


  • With the Food 4 Farmers (F4F) leadership team, develop, implement, and evaluate F4F annual communications plan, calendar, and strategy.
  • Develop manual on F4F brand guidelines and messaging and train board members, volunteers, and staff in its use.
  • Oversee F4F social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn) and track level of engagement.
  • Support the development and manage the distribution of all print and electronic materials, including e-newsletters, blogs, quarterly updates, annual report, special events, presentations, among others.
  • Manage relationships with F4F communications contractors for website, graphic design, and other marketing communications services.
  • Manage website content in collaboration with F4F staff, ensuring information, images, and links are current and accurate on both English and Spanish platforms.
  • Draft press releases and manage media contacts as requested.
  • Support the Development Director in developing and managing a comprehensive plan of marketing, cultivation, and stewardship activities that directly support fundraising and retention of our valued donor network, consistent with our mission and values, while building our base of advocates, supporters, and partners.
  • 10% development travel to trade shows, other events, and to our projects in Latin America, as safety protocols allow.

Required Qualifications 

  • Excellent writing and editing
  • Excellent communication skills, able to communicate complex ideas clearly, compellingly, and with emotional appeal.
  • Five years of experience in communications and marketing.
  • Experience working with marketing communication tools and platforms (PowerPoint, WordPress, video editing tools, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Five years of experience developing marketing materials and presentations, including brochures and other promotional materials, and graphics.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Committed to a collaborative, collegial, and respectful work environment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Spanish Proficiency.
  • Previous experience working in the coffee industry.
